Chapter 3
Charley recalls joining the Army, and how the draft worked that postponed his baseball career.
He remembers bootcamp, officer training school, and learning about the military.
He gets married, moves (a few times) and adds more people to the family.
He reflects on the place of sports in building community, finding common grown with others, and providing everyone with a welcome break for the grind of life.
D-Day occurs… and America gets entrenched in Europe, setting the stage for Charley and his battalion to fight.
