Chapter 2

Charley recalls growing up in West Birmingham and getting started in business at a young age.

He tries out for the team, gets cut before play even begins, and tries again later.

Charley joins the Crimson Tide.

He juggles summer work and baseball, where he really shines.

He meets Kitty Lacy… and then blows it because of a bad attitude and a short-temper.
