There’s a story in the Old Testament about a man who suffered much…

Job.

A quick read of chapter one reveals how entire life instantly fell apart— through no fault of his own.

His friends immediately surrounded him— and rightly so.

For a while, they sat “among the ashes” with him, quietly.

Then things went haywire.



Some suggested it was his fault— some secret sin that he needed to confess so that God could restore him.

Others contended (his wife) that he should just “curse God and die” (that is, get the misery over with).

One rightly defended Job, but even he went off-track at some point…

The solution?

Sometimes you need to jump in the hole.

For sure, this isn’t the “final answer” NOR the end of the story…

… but it is a place to begin.
