Paramedic re-experiences it each time
I was first on the scene to a fatal accident at a busy intersection downtown. A young mother and her 19-month old son were the victims.
A classic “hit and run,” the driver who crashed into them fled the scene, only to accelerate and lose control of his vehicle almost a block away. He rammed right into a metal light pole.
I used to drive through that intersection all the time…
Now, I avoid it.
I’m not worried about getting hit or being involved in an accident. It’s just that, well… I find myself getting furious that this man carelessly sped through a red light, t-boned two innocent civilians, and then tried to get away.
Anger is the only thing I feel when I ride through there, so I just take other routes— even if it takes longer.
