Your past doesnβt have the final word.
Where you are isn't who you are.
Where you are isn't where you have to remain.
Where you are is where you must begin.
See how Freedom Recovery works.
You can begin again.
βοΈ Even if youβve tried to change beforeβ¦
βοΈΒ Even if youβre not sure what to do nextβ¦
βοΈΒ Even if the same patterns keep showing upβ¦
βοΈ Even if relationships have been strained and trust feels hard to rebuildβ¦
βοΈ Even if regret makes it difficult to imagine a different futureβ¦
βοΈ You can begin right where you are.
The same grace that forgives your past empowers your next step.
Freedom Recovery helps you reflect honestly, reconnect with hope, and make a practical plan for moving forward.
A practical guide for your next best step.
Freedom Recovery grew out of walking alongside people facing hurts, habits, and hangups. It brings a grace-centered perspective to the 12 steps, with practical tools you can use in everyday life.
Each chapter pairs teaching with reflection questions and action steps. Youβll explore your story, consider what needs to change, and choose a manageable way to move forward.
Inside, youβll find tools to help you:
βοΈ Recognize patterns that keep pulling you back.
βοΈΒ Explore the beliefs and experiences shaping your choices.
βοΈΒ Tell your story honestly to someone you trust.
βοΈΒ Plan thoughtful steps toward making amends.
βοΈΒ Build rhythms of reflection, prayer, and practical action.
βοΈΒ Share what youβre learning and encourage someone else.
Start where you are.
Take one step at a time.

Focus on progress, not perfection.
Built through real conversations and practical work
Freedom Recovery grew out of helping people take the next step beyond hurts, habits, and hangups.
My work at a church in downtown Birmingham brought me alongside people with very different backgrounds and very real struggles.
Some were facing alcohol or drug addiction.
Some needed a place to live and a fresh start.
Some were rebuilding life after incarceration.
Some were trying to leave destructive relationships or patterns.
Some carried pain that was difficult to put into words.
Some seemed to have everything together, while struggling privately.
We learned that hurts, habits, and hangups cross every neighborhood and income level. Everyone needs a place to begin honestly and find support.
As the church opened its doors, our work became increasingly practical.
Classrooms became dorms. Job development and daily support became part of the work. We needed resources that helped people connect what they believed with the choices they made each day.
Many residents were required to participate in a 12-step program.
Others chose the process because they wanted help taking a different direction.
We wanted a resource that combined:
βοΈ A recognizable 12-step framework
βοΈΒ The grace, redemption, and hope we find in Christ
βοΈΒ Reflection questions and practical action steps that make progress easier to see
βοΈΒ A whole-person perspective that considers body, soul, and spirit
We drew from helpful resources, listened to participants, and kept refining the tools as we used them.
That work became Freedom Recovery.
The approach is:
βοΈΒ Practical β teaching leads into questions, plans, and actions you can use.
βοΈΒ Grace-centered β forgiveness for the past and empowerment for the present and future.
βοΈΒ Rooted in experience β developed through years of walking alongside people in transition and recovery.
Freedom Recovery can be used in several settings:
βοΈΒ Recovery centers
βοΈΒ Churches
βοΈΒ Small groups
βοΈΒ Personal study, with encouragement from a sponsor or trusted support person

How the journey works
A practical rhythm for working through the 12 steps.
First, take an honest look at where you are.
Use the reflection questions to name the patterns, experiences, and relationships that have shaped your story. Thereβs no need to pretend youβre somewhere else.
The bookβs opening reminder is simple: where you are isnβt who you are.
An honest starting point helps you choose a meaningful next step.
Second, reconnect with hope and direction.
Consider the life you want to move toward, the values you want to live by, and the support you need along the way.
The grace-centered teaching invites you to see yourself through your identity in Christ and begin imagining a future beyond familiar patterns.
Third, turn what you learn into a practical plan.
Work through the questions and action steps at the end of each chapter. Choose manageable actions and make room for them in your week.
Review your plan with a group, sponsor, or trusted person. Keep the pace realistic and return to the tools when you need them.
Fourth, keep taking your next best step.
Small choices matter. Weekly reflection helps you notice whatβs changing, identify where you need support, and adjust your plan.
As you grow, share what youβre learning. Your experience can become encouragement for someone beginning their own journey.
What makes Freedom Recovery different?
Practical Steps. Real-life experience.
This resource brings three priorities together.
First, it connects the familiar 12-step framework with practical teaching shaped by working alongside people in recovery and transition.
Their backgrounds were different, but the need for hope, honesty, and a next step was shared.
The goal is a resource you can use in real life, whether youβre studying alone or working through it with others.
Shaped by my own healing journey.
Second, it reflects lessons from my own healing journey.
As I learned more about the effects of painful experiences, guilt, and shame, I returned to the material and refined the questions and tools.
Later opportunities to use the resource in recovery settings helped shape it further. The result invites honest reflection without reducing you to your past.
Care for the whole person.
Third, it considers the whole person: body, soul, and spirit.
βοΈ Explore how your beliefs, emotions, habits, and daily choices influence one another.
βοΈΒ Practice rhythms that support growth rather than relying on willpower alone.
βοΈΒ Learn to move from your identity in Christ, with grace for your past and purpose for what comes next.
